“හන්තානෙට පායන සඳ ලස්සනයිද කියන්න”
හන්තානට පායන සඳ කියන්නේ සෑහෙන්න කොල්ලො අවුල් වෙන සිංදුවක්. තමන් ආදරේ කරපු ගෑල්ලමයා University එකට යද්දි තමං A/L Fail වෙලා නැත්තං කැම්පස් යන්න ලකුණු මදිවෙලා ජීවිතේම නස්පුක් වෙලා කාලකන්නි වෙලා ගිහින් කෙල්ලත් බූට තියලා යයි කියල හිතෙන් මැවිලා පෙන්නන්න පුලුවන් සිංදුවක්.
බහුතරේකට හැබැයි මේ සිද්දිය ඇත්තටම වෙනවා. අවුරුදු ගානක් ලව් කරන කෙල්ල කැම්පස් ගියාම කොල්ලට හුලං තමයි. සමහරු නම් යන්න කලින්ම බූට තියනවා.
කොහොමින් හරි මටත් සෑහෙන්න හිත රිද්දන සිංදුවක් මේක. මම කැම්පස් කෙල්ලෙක්ගෙන්නම් බූටක් කාලා නෑ. ඒත් මට ඇත්තටම දුක හිතෙන්න හේතුව තමයි මේ සිංදුවෙ මුල කියන:
“මා නොදකින ඒ පුරහඳ ඔබට හැකිය දකින්න”
මේ කෑල්ල අහද්දි මට ඒ කෙල්ල ගැන පට්ටම ඉරිසියාවක් දැනෙනවා. යකෝ මට නැතිව ඒ ගෑණිට විතරක් හන්තානෙට පායන හඳ බලන්න චාන්ස් එකක් හම්බවෙනවා කියන්නේ…

“Tell me if the moon over Hanthana is beautiful…”
Hanthana Moon is a song that destroys a lot of guys. It paints the exact nightmare: the girl you loved gets selected for University while you failed A/Ls or fell short on Z-score, leaving you behind while she moves on and breaks your heart.
For the majority, it actually happens. You date for years, she goes to campus, and you’re left with wind.
Anyway, this song gets to me too. I’ve never been dumped by a campus girl, but the line that really hits me is at the start:
“You get to see that full moon that I cannot see…”
Every time I hear that line, I feel pure jealousy toward that girl. Damn it, why does only she get the chance to sit there and watch the moon rise over Hanthana while I’m stuck here?
Pure envy!
