Review: Fallen Angels (1995) සහ Fuji Green Color Grade එක
වැඩත් එක්ක ෆිල්ම් බලන්න වෙලාවක් නැති වුණත් අන්තිමේදී පිස්සු හැදෙන එකක් බැලුවා: Wong Kar-wai ගේ Fallen Angels. අමුතුම Cinematography එකක්, පට්ට Vibe එකක්. මම පෞද්ගලිකවම ආස කරන Fujifilm color science එක මේකේ උපරිමයෙන්ම තියෙනවා.
Visuals & Vibe Christopher Doyle ගේ Cinematography එක කැපී පෙනෙනවා. එයා පාවිච්චි කරන්නේ extreme wide-angle lenses එක්ක extreme close-ups. මූණු අමුතුවට සහ කැතට පෙනුනත්, ඒකෙන් මාරම raw vibe එකක් එනවා. Characters එකිනෙකාට ලඟින් ඉන්නවා වගේ පෙනුනට උන්ගේ background එක හෙනම දුරයි. “අපි ළඟින් හිටියට මනසින් සැතපුම් ගානක් දුරයි” කියන ෆීලින් එක ඒකෙන් උපරිමයටම ගන්නවා.
Colors හොලිවුඩ්වල තියෙන standard ‘Kodak Gold’ look එක වෙනුවට මේකේ තියෙන්නේ නිකන් ලෙඩ පාට green & cyan Fuji tone එකක්. Neon lights, රෑ අහස, මිනිස්සුන්ගේ මූණු ඔක්කොම නිකන් ලෙඩ හැදිලා වගේ පෙනුනට මාරම ලස්සනයි. (Enter the Void බලලා තියෙනවනම් ඒකෙත් තියෙන්නේ මේ වගේම color palette එකක්).
Plot හොංකොංවල අතරමං වුණු චරිත. Professional hitman කෙනෙක්. ඌට ජොබ් හොයලා දෙන, ඌට crush වෙන partner කෙල්ල. රෑට කඩවලට පැනලා පිස්සු කෙලින ගොළු කොල්ලෙක්. දෙබස් නෑ තරම්. සිගරට් දුම, නියෝන් එළි සහ BGM වලින් තමයි මුළු කතාවම ගලාගෙන යන්නේ.
Carlsberg එකක් බොන ගමන් බලන්න සුපිරිම ෆිල්ම් එකක්. Rating: 4/5

Don’t have much time for films with work, but finally watched a trippy one: Wong Kar-wai’s Fallen Angels. Weird cinematography, great vibe. It has that Fujifilm color science I personally love.
Visuals & Vibe Christopher Doyle’s cinematography stands out. He uses extreme wide-angle lenses for extreme close-ups. Faces look distorted, but it creates a raw vibe. Characters feel physically close, but their background is distant. It perfectly captures the feeling of ‘we’re physically close, but mentally miles apart.’
Colors Instead of the ‘Kodak Gold’ look of Hollywood from that era, it uses a sickly green & cyan Fuji tone. Neon lights, night skies, and faces look diseased but beautiful. (If you watch closely, Enter the Void uses a very similar palette).
Plot Lost characters in Hong Kong. A professional hitman. His partner who finds him jobs, and crushes on him. A mute kid breaking into shops at night. Almost no dialogue. The story is told through cigarette smoke, neon lights, and BGM.
Pairs perfectly with a Carlsberg. Rating: 4/5
